Can I run a discount code on my travel booking website for a festival offer?
Yes, most white label travel portals can run discount codes, although how much control you get over the rules depends on your plan and the way your portal is set up.
In the usual setup you create a code in your admin area and attach conditions to it. You can normally choose the dates the code is live, whether it works on hotels, flights or everything, whether it takes a percentage off or a fixed amount off, and how many times it can be used in total or per customer. The customer types the code at the payment step and sees the reduced total before they pay. Your reports should then show which bookings came in on which code, so you can tell whether an offer was worth repeating.
The thing to be clear about is where the money comes from. A discount code reduces what your customer pays you, but it does not reduce what the supplier charges you, so the discount comes straight out of your own margin. Set your markup with that in mind before you advertise a code widely. It is also worth checking how a discounted booking is handled if the customer later cancels, because the refund is worked out from the supplier fare rules rather than from the amount your customer actually paid, and some suppliers do not allow their rates to be discounted at all.
Before you promote the offer, write down the rules you want the code to follow, ask us to confirm which of them your portal can enforce, and run one practice booking with the code so you can see exactly what your customer will see at checkout.
