Can I search for hotels near a particular address or landmark instead of just searching the whole city?
Yes, in most cases you can. A hotel search through our API can be run from a city name, but it can also be run from a point on the map, so if your customer gives you an address, a railway station, a hospital or a wedding venue, the search can look for properties around that point and bring back the nearest ones first. This is often more useful than a plain city search, because customers rarely ask for a hotel in a city, they ask for a hotel near something.
In practice the location your customer gives you needs to be turned into a point on the map before the search runs, and the system handles that lookup for you from the text you type. Results can then be sorted by how close each property is. Keep in mind that the distance shown is measured in a straight line, not by road or on foot, so a hotel that looks very close on paper may still be across a river or a main road.
There are honest limits here. The position of each hotel comes from supplier content, and smaller independent properties sometimes have rough coordinates, so a hotel can appear a little out of place. A search also returns a limited set of results at a time, so a very tight radius in a busy city centre may not show you every option. What you see also depends on which suppliers are switched on for your account.
If this matters to your business, tell us the kind of searches your customers ask for most, and try a test search in an area you know well so you can judge for yourself whether the results sit where you expect them to.
