Can I show my customers cheaper dates around the ones they searched for on my flight booking page?
Yes, in most cases you can, although how far it stretches depends on which airline sources are connected to your portal. A flight booking API can often return fares for the days either side of the travel dates your customer typed in, so your search page can display a small calendar or a row of nearby dates with the lowest fare found for each one. The customer picks a cheaper day, the search runs again for that date, and they carry on to booking as normal.
There are usually two ways this is put together. Either the supplier accepts a flexible date request and sends back a spread of dates in one go, or your portal collects the lowest fares seen earlier and shows those as a guide. Fares shown this way should always be treated as indicative. They are a prompt to look at another day, not a confirmed price, so the fare has to be checked again live once the customer selects a flight.
The honest limits are worth knowing before you promise this to customers. Not every airline source supports a date range search, and budget airlines in particular often have to be asked one date at a time, which makes a wide calendar slower or only partly filled. Some connections and plans also cap how many searches you can run, so you may be asked to keep the window modest rather than offering a whole month.
The next step is to ask which of your connected flight sources support flexible date searching, agree how many days either side you want to show, and then test a busy route to see how quickly the calendar fills in before you put it in front of customers.
