Can I book a flight for a group of twenty people travelling together?
Yes, you can sell flights to a large group, but in most cases it will not go through as one single booking. Airlines set a maximum number of passengers they will accept in one reservation, and the flight booking API simply follows whatever the airline allows. When your group is bigger than that limit, the usual way to handle it is to split the party into several bookings on the same flight, one after the other.
If you do split the booking, there are a few things to keep in mind. Each booking gets its own airline reference, so you will be handing your customer more than one confirmation. Seats may not end up together unless you choose them, and the fare can differ slightly between bookings because the cheaper seats in a fare class can run out while you are still working through the group. Booking the parts quickly, one straight after the other, gives you the best chance of keeping everyone on the same flight at a similar fare.
Proper group fares, the kind where you contact an airline and negotiate a rate with a deposit and names added later, are a different thing altogether. Those are normally arranged directly with an airline group desk and are not sold through live search and booking connections, so whether you can load them into your portal depends on the supplier you are connected to and the setup you have with us.
Before you quote a large group, check the passenger limit shown in your booking screen for that search, and if you expect to handle big parties regularly, ask us what your current connections support so you know in advance which bookings can go through the system and which need to be arranged with the airline directly.
