Yes, in most cases you will be told, but how quickly and how reliably the message reaches you depends on the airline and on the supplier the fare came from.

When an airline moves a departure, changes an aircraft or cancels a service, it sends a change message back against the booking. Where that message is passed on to us, we can show it on the booking record in your dashboard and send an alert to your team so somebody can act on it. Full service airlines booked through a main distribution source are generally good about sending these messages. Many low cost carriers work differently and simply email the contact address held on the booking, so if your agency address was used, the notice lands with you rather than the customer, and if the customer's address was used it may reach them before it reaches you. It is worth deciding at the start which address goes on bookings, because that single choice decides who hears first.

Be aware of what a change notice does and does not do. It tells you what has changed, not automatically what your customer is owed. Accepting the new timing, moving the passenger to a different flight or asking for a refund follows the airline's own rules, and for some airlines that still means a manual request rather than something handled in one step through the connection. Very late changes on the day of travel can also reach the passenger at the airport before any message reaches your office.

Check with us which of the airlines on your connection send change messages through, and make sure the right people in your team are set to receive those alerts.

Saved.
