Can my customer see the hotel's cancellation deadline before they pay on my portal?
Yes, in nearly every case the cancellation terms arrive together with the room rate and can be shown to your customer before they pay. Hotel suppliers send the policy attached to each rate, so a room that can be cancelled free until a certain date will say so, and a room that cannot be cancelled at all will be shown as non refundable. Your portal can display that on the room results, again on the review page and once more on the confirmation the customer receives.
Where it gets less tidy is the wording. Every supplier writes its policy in its own way. Some send an exact date and time, some send a number of days before arrival, and a few send a short line of text instead of a clean date. Your portal can only show what the supplier gives it, so on a small number of rates your customer will read a sentence rather than a neat deadline. It is worth checking how your own suppliers word this before you go live.
One thing that catches people out is the clock. A free cancellation deadline is normally the local time at the hotel, not the time where your customer is sitting, so a booking that looks cancellable until midnight may already be past the cut off in another country. It also helps to remember that the deadline applies to the cancellation reaching the supplier, not to the customer deciding to cancel.
Run a few searches in the destinations you sell most and look at how the policy reads on the results page, the payment page and the voucher, and tell us if any supplier's wording needs to be presented more clearly for your customers.
