Yes, multi city trips can be booked through our flight booking API, alongside ordinary one way and return searches. Instead of sending one route and one date, you send each leg of the journey separately, so a customer flying out to one city, on to another, and home again is searched as a single request with the dates you want for each leg.

What comes back depends on the airlines involved. Where the carriers allow it, you will get a single fare covering the whole journey, with one booking reference and one set of fare rules, which is usually the cleanest option for the customer. In other cases the only way to build the trip is to put separate one way fares together, and the API will show you that as a combination rather than as one through fare.

This is the part worth being honest about. Low cost carriers generally cannot be joined into a single ticket with other airlines, so those itineraries end up as separate tickets. When that happens, each ticket has its own baggage allowance, its own change and cancellation rules, and no protection if a delay on an earlier leg causes a missed flight later. The number of legs you can put in one search also varies by supplier, so very long or unusual routings may not return a result even though each piece is available on its own.

Before you sell this kind of itinerary, run the exact routing in our test environment and look at whether the response is one ticket or several, then explain that difference to your customer so they know where they stand if a flight is delayed.

Saved.
