Can I request a special meal for my customer when I book their flight through your flight booking API?
Yes, you can usually add a special meal request when the airline and fare support it. This may include common choices such as vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, diabetic or allergy related meals. The exact choices shown through the flight booking API depend on the information supplied by the airline.
A meal request is not the same as a confirmed meal. Some airlines accept the request during booking, while others only allow it after the ticket has been issued or through their own booking management service. Certain flights may not serve meals at all, and low cost or short distance services may offer food only for purchase.
If the airline returns an update, glideFares can show whether the request has been accepted, rejected or is still waiting for confirmation. However, the final decision and delivery remain with the airline, so a requested meal should never be promised to the customer until its status is clear. Customers with serious food allergies should also contact the airline directly because a special meal does not guarantee an allergen free cabin or preparation area.
Before completing the booking, check which meal choices appear for that flight, submit the customer’s preference exactly as requested, and confirm the final status with the airline before travel.
